| The following procedure should
be used when post-soldering Creation cases.
Note that this procedure does differ from
our general technique in some regards. |
| 1 |
After indexing the units to
be soldered, fill the abutments with soldering
investment. Insert firing pegs into the
investment so that the case work can be
raised off of the investment patty. It may
be necessary to cut "grooves"
into the firing pegs to provide some mechanical
retention. |
| 2 |
Fix the pegs holding the units
in an investment patty. Keep the patty as
small as possible. This technique is also
known as the "stilt method". |
| 3 |
Preheat in a burnout furnace
for 10-20 minutes at 200°C (390°F).
Do not preheat to a higher temperature.
Sparingly flux the areas to receive solder. |
| 4 |
Transfer the case to the porcelain
furnace, place the solder, and run the following
schedule: |
Notes
The end temperature and hold time will
vary for different solders and different
furnaces. It is a good idea to practice
on a piece of scrap metal in order to establish
the correct parameters for your particular
combination.
Important
Cool the case very quickly out of the
porcelain furnace.
Slight flux staining on the porcelain
can be removed by ultrasonically cleaning
in a diluted hydrochloric acid
solution for 2 to 3 minutes.
