Instructions
For Calibrating:
CN, CT, CP, CR, Artex Articulators and Carbon-Series Mounting
Unit
Not for use with the Artex
Classic Series
You will need:
01. Magnet Removal tool
02. Assembly Tool
03. Mounting Plate
04. Magnet Pot
05. Mounting Screws
06. Base Plate – Maxilla
07. Adjustment Plate – Mandible
08. Adhesive Plate (note beveled edge)
Petroleum jelly
Loctite 330® adhesive with activator
+10mm Spacer Plate*
NOTE:*
If calibrating with a “Classic Artex” 110 mm key,
attach a “Spacer Plate, +10 mm”, (46011, not pictured)
to the upper Splitex Plate now (magnet to magnet.)
The Steps for Calibrating:
Step 1:
Set the articulator to average-value settings*
(standard working conditions).
* 30-35° condylar inclination * 10-15° Bennett angle
* Anterior guidance pin at 0
Step 2:
Remove blue model plates from upper and lower arms

Step 3:
Remove upper magnet with magnet removal tool

Step 4:
Loosen and unscrew magnet pot with assembly tool

Step 5:
Magnet pot removed
step 6:
Screw in the mounting plate all the way, using the
assembly tool

step 7:
Mounting plate inserted

Step 8:
Unscrew the magnet pot from upper magnetic calibration
plate. Place that upper plate onto the upper arm of the articulator
Step 9:
Attach upper magnetic calibration plate to the upper
arm of the articulator using the socket-head screw
Step 10:
Screw in the magnet pot to the upper magnetic claibration
plate

Step 11:
Magnet pot inserted.

Step 12:
Replace the magnet.

Step 13:
Magnet replaced
Step 14:
Remove lower magnet

Step 15:
Loosen and unscrew magnet pot with assembly key

Step 16:
Magnet pot removed

Step 17:
Screw mounting plate all the way in, using assembly
tool

Step 18:
Mounting plate inserted

Step 19:
Isolate the Carbon surface in the area of the adhesive
plate with a thin layer of petroleum jelly

Step 20:
Set in the adhesive plate, with chamfering to the
rear (Important for later removal!)

Step 21:
Attach the adhesive plate with socket-head screw

Step 22:
Turn articulator upside down. Open the centric locks.
Note: if calibrating to Classic artex, now place the 10 mm
spacer plate on the magnetic calibration plate. (For use on
UPPER ARM only. Do not place spacer on lower arm)

Step 23:
Place Splitex Key (C6010) on the upper magnetic calibration
plate (or when calibrating to classic Artex, use key 46010,
and place it on the 10 mm spacer plate)

Step 24:
TOP to TOP

Step 25:
Place the lower magnetic calibration plate (with
the magnet) on the key.

Step 26:
Clean the adhesive plate, and the lower (milled)
side of the lower magnetic calibration plate til grease-free

Step 27:
Spray the activator on the adhesive plate

Step 28:
Put on two rows of adhesive of glue to the left and
right of the drilled areas, not into the drilled areas!

Step 29:
Close the articulator

Step 30:
Close the centric locks

Step 31:
Press the articulator front for approximately 5 seconds
gently against the incisal pin. Let the adhesive set for 10
minutes or until completely set. Do not move the articulator
in the meantime!

Steps for Recalibrating:
Step 1:
Remove the magnet

Step 2:
Unscrew the magnet pot

Step 3:
Unscrew the socket-head screw
Place a plaster knife between the chamfering of the
glue plate and the splitex magnetic calibration plate and
tilt it to separate!
Instructions for application of
Loctite® 330:
1. Clean the adhesive plate and bottom (milling
holes) of the mandibular plate to be sure it is free of grease.
2. Use Loctite adhesive to glue the mandibular
plate to the adhesive plate. Spray activator onto the bottom
Splitex plate for the mandible. Apply two parallel lines of
adhesive centered between the edges and the center milling
holes of the adhesive plate. Immediately close the articulator
and slightly press on the anterior pin for 5 seconds until
the adhesive has completely adapted on both sides. Let set
for 10 minutes. The calibration procedure is finished when
the adhesive has completely set.
Mounting Unit Exception: The one-piece lower
Splitex plate for the Mounting Unit (C6020) is designed to
attach solely by gluing, not with a screw.
Important Notes: For cleaning and care of
Splitex plates, use only cleaning agents that are suitable
for light metals, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Do not clean Splitex plates in an ultrasonic bath, as the
anodized coating may be damaged. Do not use cleaning agents
with a pH of <5 or >8 since these might damage the anodized
surfaces.
Since heat will irreversibly reduce the power of the magnets,
do not steam-clean or boil the magnets.
