INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSEMBLY, CENTRIC
ADJUSTMENT, AND USE
The "NK" articulator (#47520) is a semi-adjustable,
non-arcon articulator with a 0º to 25º adjustment
setting for Bennett Angle, and a fixed condylar inclination
of 35º with a 19mm curvature radius.
ASSEMBLY AND CENTRIC ADJUSTMENT
Remove the two screws from end of the lower arm of
the articulator, and set them aside. Insert
the prongs of the lower arm into the predrilled holes
found on the bar between the upright arms of
the articulator (with the lower arm facing you, make
sure the numbers designating Bennett angle
are also facing you). Insert the screws from the back,
and tighten them with the larger of the
supplied allen wrenches. Alternate between the two
screws when tightening them. The lower arm
of the articulator must be flush with the center bar,
and tightening the screws will help achieve
this.
Slide the incisal guidance pin into
the slot on the upper arm of the articulator, with
the number
designations towards the front, and tighten the large
white screw to hold it in place. Make sure the
pin is set at zero.
Remove the two plugs from the top arm
of the articulator, to uncover the underlying axle
set-screws.
Using the smaller of the two supplied
allen wrenches, loosen both axle set- screws.
Lift up the plastic clips on either
side of the articulator.
Attach the upper arm of the articulator
by making sure the condyle balls rest in the center
of each
condyle housing. You may have to pull on the ends
of the axle to have the condyles match the
housing locations.
Slide the small inclined incisal table
onto the flat table at the front of the lower arm.
Make sure
the incisal pin is in its centric position (represented
by a small u-shaped cut-out on the incisal
table). You may have to loosen the large white screw
holding the pin, to move the pin backward
or forward slightly.
Maintain the upper arm in this centric
position, and pull the right side of the condyle axle
completely to the right as far as it will go, making
sure that the condyle ball rests properly in the
housing. Tighten the right axle set-screw. Repeat
this procedure for the left side. Close the plastic
clips to ensure each condyle is in its center of rotation.
Place your hand on the upper arm of
the articulator, and hold the bottom of the articulator
with
your other hand. Try to move the upper arm back and
forth to ensure that there is no "play"
or
movement. If the arm is not tight, loosen the axle
set-screws again, and repeat step 6.
10. If an average value setting is desired, set the
Bennett angle at 15º.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
You will need to mount magnetic SPLITEX ® plates
(46100) onto the articulator prior to using the unit
for
the first time (see separate instructions). Axis-related
models can then be mounted to the articulator by
using a "buffer" plate in-between the magnetic
plate and the quick-setting plaster that will hold
each
model.
Accomplishing settings and movements:
Lateral movement for replication of excursions can
be achieved by using your thumb to lift up
the plastic clip (found on the left or the right of
the upper arm of the articulator) which holds the
condyle ball in its center of rotation. Open up the
left clip to allow for lateral movement of the left
condyle along its condylar pathway, or the right clip
to allow lateral movement to the right. Both
clips can be opened to allow for protrusive movement.
Pressing the clips down allows the plastic tongue
to center the condyle ball(s) in the lowest
position of the condyle path. Only opening and closing
movement is now possible.
Bennett angle setting adjustments can be made by loosening
the screw-head on either arm. Then
line up the vertical mark for the appropriate angle-setting
(determined by lateral check-bites
provided by the dentist, or by using average values)
with the vertical reference line, and relock
the screw-head.
