The platinum foil method remains the preferred technique for laminates among Oral Design members. Laminates fired on platinum foil can usually be fired using regular (PFM) firing programs. For additional information see Recommended Literature Fabricating Creation Restorations on refractory dies
- Make dies from one of the following refractories:
- PLV Fine Grain High Expanding / V-Tec High Expanding
(Gresco Products, 800-527-3250) GCera / OrbitVest
(GC America products available from most dental supply companies) - Burn out the dies and soak them in distilled water.
- Mix up some Dentin, Opacious Dentin, or HT with distilled water and build a layer 0.2-0.3mm thick.
- Fire 10-20°C (15-30°F) higher than the PFM 1st dentin bake firing temperature.
- Soak the dies again and build to full contour. Fire again at the same temperature.
- Continue until the case is completed. (Subsequent bakes may requirelower firing temperatures.)
- Ceramco refractory is not recommended.
- In-Ceram, Vitadur-alpha, Optec, etc. (Refractories intended for all-ceramic systems are NOT COMPATIBLE!)
- Etch-it for Porcelain (ADS, 800-558-5925)
- Ceram-Etch (Gresco Products, 800-527-3250)
Bonding Dual cure cements work well with Creation restorations
- Choice (Bisco, 800-BIS-DENT)
- Ultrabond (Denmat, 800-445-0345)
- No more than ¼" investment over the tops of patterns.
