MOST PORCELAIN MATERIAL that's used to fabricate teeth doesn't have
the ability to transmit different kinds of light. This is especially
notable in ultra-violet light, where a restoration tends to look dead,
black, and artificial.
Not so with Creation Porcelain. In addition to Creation's
Shoulder Porcelain, the other component in the system that's noted
for its ability to recreate the fluorescent effect is In Nova.
In Nova is the only known system of its kind in the world. As a universal
modifier kit, In Nova allows you to customize the shades of restorations.
The kit, which includes 10 shades, a bottle of fluid and a porcelain
stain palette, is one of the newest components in the Creation
System.
"We live in a world of UV light," says Mike Benedict of
Benedict Dental Lab in Encinitas, CA. "UV light can have a dramatic
affect on the level of vitality exhibited in a restoration. With In
Nova, the restoration comes alive. So whether the patient is at a
disco or at the beach, the crown will look more genuine."
How It's Used
The In Nova powders are typically applied as a wash over the unfired
Dentin or Enamel powders during build-up. During the first or second
bake, the material can be mixed with other components of the Creation
System including Shoulder Porcelain, Opacious Dentin, Dentin, and
specialty powders such as Make Ins, Neck Translucents, and SI-TIs.
"Discrete placement of very small quantities of the In Nova
powders provides unique internal characterization," says Mary
Kay Hunt, CDT, Hunt Dental Studio in Avon, CT. "The powders should
not, however, be mixed with the opaques because their strong fluorescent
effect would reflect light and allow the coping to show through the
build-up." Hunt also explained that In Nova should never be used
on the surface of a restoration.
The colors in the In Nova system include light peach, salmon pink,
yellow, light brown, golden rod, mustard/olive, lavender/slate, periwinkle,
sunburst yellow, and white.
"In Nova powders are especially useful when a technician is
trying to create a natural-looking, higher-level restoration. The
powders, quite literally, allow a ceramist to create any shade of
a real tooth," says Hunt.
